Completely self-sufficient, this authentic eco lodge offers a one of a kind experience to adventurous travelers and nature lovers from around the world. The title process for this property is almost complete!
THE AREA
Outside the regular tourist circuit, the Rambala Eco Lodge appeals to those looking for a special escape, those who travel off the beaten path, and those who seek the best kept secrets of every destination. Located 3 kms off the main road which links the touristy Bocas del Toro archipelago to the conveniences of David & Boquete, the lodge is technically located in the small community of Rambala.
Though buffered by its 31.6 hectares of mature rainforest, the proximity to basic necessities is surprisingly convenient! Rambala town offers several mini markets, hardware stores, restaurants, two gas stations, a bank, and a bus terminal which offers direct transportation to and from anywhere in Panama. Also in the area are a hospital, an aeronaval station, police station, and a new water taxi route linking the Chiriqui Grande Port to Isla Colon, the main island of the Archipelago.

Amenities
THE LAND
This incredibly diverse property has three year round, spring fed streams which provide cool, crystal clear water for drinking, bathing, swimming and power production. There are two designated areas for year round swimming, both with beautiful waterfalls and perfect sun exposure.
Sitting at a higher elevation than almost any touristic option in the province, the lodge receives steady breezes off of the Caribbean sea during the day & cool mountain air at night, maintaining a perfect temperature of approximately 84°f-89°f MAX during the day and a very comfortable 68°f-75°f low at night.
Over 4 km of well maintained private hiking trails have been carved into the landscape, providing excellent observation points for a great variety of wildlife. Daily encounters with both three toed and two toed sloths are common on the property. There are three species of toucans that have been seen, and hundreds of other beautiful tropical birds that attract the birding community. Kinkajous, three species of monkeys and a long list of other wild animals call this place home.
Throughout the property there are hundreds of mature fruit producing trees including two types of banana, two types of plantains, orange trees, Cacao trees (Chocolate) Guava trees, Mango trees, avocado trees, lemon trees, coconut palms, Guanabana trees and pineapple plants. Along with over a dozen mature( 500+ yrs old) Almendro trees affectionately called the guardians of the rainforest.
THE BUSINESS
This turnkey lodge is fully functional and currently open for guests year round with confirmed bookings extended into the end of the year all while maintaining positive reviews from international travelers online. The Lodge is accessible only by foot or on horse back along a well maintained trail from the parking area, it takes approximately 10-15 minutes to arrive at the lodge. There are a few designated areas with benches to rest if needed along the trail which has been hiked by guests of all ages ranging from 3 yrs-82yrs old with ease.
Horses play an important role at the lodge not only for rides but hauling in guest luggage and supplies, and several are included in the sale of the property. A half acre lemon orchard is fenced for the horses and has its own year round stream and quality grass for grazing. After before and after rides, the horses rest and eat in a corral in front of the lodge, it’s a great place for guests to visit the horses and feed them without hiking to the pasture.
One full time employee who has been on-site for nearly 10 yrs comes highly recommended by the current owners as an asset to the lodge and works closely with the locals if additional workers are ever needed for new construction projects. His daily duties include all grounds maintenance as well as horse care and horseback riding tours for guests, he also hauls in all supplies and guest luggage when needed. When owner/operators are not present, employees stay onsite 24/7 to maintain the turbine system and watch over the lodge for days or weeks at a time.
The lodge currently books guests independently through various online booking sites but also works with three Panama based eco tour companies that use the lodge regularly for their international clients. Currently operating as Panamas only hike-in all inclusive eco lodge. Panamanian cell phone provider CLARO works well all over the property with reliable signals capable of streaming and video chats. Starlink internet is said to be available in the area within the year offering 100 Mbps service via satellite.
THE BUILDINGS
The Rambala Jungle lodge has three separate bungalows and two more rooms in the main building with a total of 5 bedrooms and 5 baths capable of sleeping 11 guests. An additional site has been cleared for a new bungalow to be constructed if desired.
The main lodge and all bungalows have new ‘Panaroof’ PVC roofs that will last for decades to come without rusting while staying cooler in the sun and quieter in the rain than typical galvanized metal ones. All bungalows and rooms have private attached bathrooms with hot water on demand and flushing toilets with independent septic systems for each building.
The Main Building has the dining area, lounge, kitchen/bar and walk in bodega used for pantry and laundry. Its open air kitchen offers amazing views of the jungle and is equipped with everything needed to prepare meals with ease including five burner stove/oven, deep freezer, Lg side by side refrigerator, commercial grade coffee maker, toaster as well as various mixers, blenders, ice machine and microwave. Under the main building is the garden bodega containing all the hydro electric equipment, battery bank, building supplies, tools and all that’s needed to maintain property.
The Main building also has 2 bedrooms:
Room 1 SAPO – The first room is a small guest room, with a twin bed and private bathroom with the same conveniences and charm of the other bungalows just smaller.
Room 2 JEFE – The second room has a queen bed and private bath currently used as the owner/operators suite with a beautiful shower constructed around a massive boulder that extends outside the building. The Jefe room also has a small wardrobe, ceiling fan, canopy bed fan and smart TV, and is centrally located to always assist any guests if needed.
CABANAS TOUCAN AND KINKAJOU- 2 bungalows are nearly identical, both have views of the mountain stream 50-100ft away. The Toucan bungalow is directly over ‘Table Rock Falls’ with a view that has become the guest favorite. Each bungalow sleeps two, with a queen bed, private bath, safe, mini refrigerator, imported 100% cotton mosquito nets with canopy fans, beautiful bamboo shower, hot water, flushing toilet, hammock and multiple electrical outlets.
CABANA COLIBRI – This bungalow sleeps 4, has 2 beds and is a great choice for families. It has gorgeous jungle views and is conveniently close to the main lodge.
Common areas are an important element of the Jungle Lodge, where like minded people can enjoy each other’s company surrounded by nature:
‘EL RANCHO’ is an open air pavilion with hammock chairs, bar top & stools, darts and billiard table with overhead lighting and 110v outlets.
‘LA PALAPA’ is a naturally constructed Tiki style hut, made with a thatched palm roof. It has a propane fueled fireplace with seating for six and fun LED lighting for night time gatherings.
One of the best off-grid luxuries on the property is the ‘ JUNGLE JACUZZI’ – a great way to end an adventurous day with a soak in the hot bubbly jets. It is propane heated and seats 8-10 comfortably.

Features
OFF GRID
The Rambala Jungle Lodge is a truly eco friendly operation with no fossil fuel (gas/diesle) generators used ever! It is powered entirely by micro hydro turbines combined with outback power and midnite solar equipment and produces a tremendous amount of energy. Unlike solar, the hydro system provides power 24/7 and is capable of running everyday appliances without the fear of low batteries or poor energy production due to bad weather conditions. The system is producing four times the power currently being used by the lodge.
Constructed entirely with timber from the property & built by a team of local ingenious people
the (Ngäbe-Buglé). Each piece of wood was cut with a chainsaw then hauled by hand and assembled by hand without the use of any modern day saws or nail guns. Select types of wood were used for various applications to insure longevity in the jungle environment. The rustic, caribbean style construction blends perfectly in the middle of the rainforest.
All potable water used on site is provided from one of the on site springs, ultra filtered with an English imported system. The water passes through a mechanical filtration and Ultraviolet radiation providing safe drinking water year round with great water pressure.Pathways from all buildings & common areas are lit at night with 110v LED path lights.
A 300 square foot greenhouse with eight raised beds, exhaust fan and automatic irrigation provides a secure place to grow your veggies and the hen house keeps chickens safe and secure allowing them to provide approximately 40-50 fresh eggs per week. How’s that for self sufficiency?!
