THE SPLIT HILL ISLAND ESCAPE IS MADE FOR THE OUTDOOR ADVENTURER
The perfect launching pad for all your tropical outdoor adventures is right here at the Split Hill Island Escape. From the crystalline waters of the Chiriqui Lagoon, to sprawling reefs for snorkelling, endless paddling and white sand beaches are just around the corner, this island gem has it all.
Split Hill Island, or Isla Loma Partida is separated from the mainland by a narrow channel, it is said that a new road could over bridge this channel and that municipal power will one day be provided to the island. These developments are speculative for now, but one thing is for sure, a new water taxi route serves the area, making the Split Hill Island Escape more accessible than ever before! The new route connects Bocas Town on Isla Colon ( where the airport is located) to the busy little port town of Chiriqui Grande, stopping in the middle of the trip at the Loma Partida channel ( 5 minutes from the Split Hill Island Escape!). Taxis pass 4 times a day in each direction making the logistics of island life a breeze!
Another logistical point of interest is a little coastal town called Punta Robalo, where many residents of this neighborhood park their cars for easy mainland access. There is however, no great need for wheels, as the island has its own mini grocery store, gas station, church and elementary school.
This three hectare paradise has beautiful elevation, and wide open views of the Chiriqui lagoon and the great Kusapin Peninsula that separates Bocas del Toro from its neighboring Province Veraguas. The fertile land begins its gentle incline from the sparkling Carribean at the 150 foot rock sea wall and pebbly beach. This landscaping gives the property a manicured finish and prevents future erosion, while keeping the reef and the ocean clean and clear as can be.
The land is abundant with fruiting trees, plantain, coconut, guanabana trees, breadfruit, and several avocado trees, Yucca and other root vegetables as well as numerous citrus trees all make island life sweet. About 50 meters from the base of the dock is a beautiful elevated plateau for building your tropical home. The plateau currently houses 2 large rain water catchment tanks which serve the over the water home, in the future these could be moved to even higher ground to provide both buildings with gravity fed water. Lawn and orchards ease their way to wilderness towards the back of the three hectares, where the property blends beautifully with the natural jungle of the island thanks to more than 500 trees planted by the current owner.
The Split Hill Island Escape home is a simple and secure over the water structure, easy for spontaneous travelers to lock up and leave at the drop of a hat. The 1800 square foot home is painted in fun Caribbean colors and is wrapped by a wooden patio that leaves you feeling afloat in the wide open views of sea and sky. The West side of the deck is a covered dining space and double slip boat house, and at the end of the dock is a wooden staircase for amphibious operations.
The interior of the lower level is a kitchen and storage area which converts to a living space when the paddle boards are in use. All the off grid amenities are found on the lower floor including 18 batteries and a robust Outback inverter, both only 2 years old. The indoor stairs lead up to a loft style bedroom, bathroom and seating area, and double doors are installed for the future installation of a second story front porch. The whole house opens up to welcome the ocean breeze, while offering a shady and screened in retreat from nature.
The Fairwind, a project boat which could be converted into a whimsical 1 bedroom guest cabana.
