THE ISLANDS

The On the Rocks Private Islands, are only a 25 minute boat ride from the main island of Bocas Del Toro, where the airport is located. Though you will feel absolutely marooned at the On the Rocks home, it’s actually only 8 minutes away from Cayo Coral, where you will find all the necessities to fuel your adventures – gas, propane, a small food store and a restaurant.

Of the three small islands that make up the property, Island A and B are attached to one another by the home itself, they include grey water tanks and a septic system and the two docks. Island C is separate but only yards away, here you can watch dolphins hunt for lobster from the front deck of the home.

A lot of rock work has been done, transforming the island’s steep earthy edges to cave-like water accesses and protecting the island from erosion. The center island ( island B) has been landscaped with stairs connecting its two ridges. Between the two ridges is the guest dock, and a central concrete patio. The ridge closest to Isla Popa has a shed and a ladder to climb down the back of the island and access the beach. On the other ridge a shaded wooden platform has been built to rest and gaze over to the Zapatillas Islands, from here you access the home.

The 3 islands each have dramatic topography, offering building platforms high above the sea, and soil rich enough to grow fruit and giant shade trees. Every Thursday fresh vegetables are delivered to the dock, so really there is no need to leave!
